ABOUT THE BOX SET:
Well, due to the pandemic, all of our plans (like everyone elses) stopped abruptly in March 2020. So, we would have to wait to put out a proper album until we could do it right, and tour, etc. But we had to do something, since we didn’t know when that would actually happen! And we wanted people to hear the music!
So we came up with an idea... a way to essentially let people into our album process, from where we were at. We called it the 'Urchin Prescription Plan 2020', which was a 5 month subscription plan for the remaining months of 2020 (Aug through Dec)... with music delivered monthly to subscribers’ e-mail inboxes, for streaming, plus mp3 and/or lossless downloading/iTunes library delivery. With the plan, each month we delivered an EP of new music from our collection, on the 1st of each month... as well as choice live shows from Bill’s “ILL Vault” and unreleased recordings from my archives, on the 15th.
So here are the 5 complete EPs of new music, exactly as they went out for the Prescription Plan. These are all 'Tomato Mixes', which are our working mixes, yet to be polished up for any official release. But great quality nonetheless... not rough demo quality, but maybe a little loud and messy at times! Also, these are songs that may or may not appear on a final album, or in the ‘Tomato Mixes’ state you have here; meaning that ones that end up on an album will be properly mixed/mastered, or re-recorded with the full band.
So now, somewhat ‘post-pandemic’... these songs, and their mixes, really represent the whole lock-down era for us. Even though they were mostly written before the pandemic, they have some sort of theme, vibe, and quality that seems to embody the experience in some crazy weird coincidental way, and the mixes feel like the time as well!
